Yes, this is indeed a blog about a filmmaker. I’m also not sure why there haven’t been very many films posted in the last few months. But here’s one now! It’s for the film class I’m taking this semester about… something I’m still not quite sure about.
This is the first of four assignments I am to make for this class. For the first of which we were to create a “digital essay” combining footage from Chantal Ackerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, Shirley Clarke’s Ornette: Made in America and The Cool World, and At Land and Meshes of the Afternoon by Maya Deren. What exactly a “digital essay” is, and why our professor couldn’t say “film”, I don’t know. But here it is, let me know what you think.
Yeah, I didn’t use the best takes of me pronouncing French, but I certainly need help with it. In fact, it’s what I’m working on in Beginning French, but I’m getting there.
Also, it’s not vert difficult to make a movie that’s better than Meshes of the Afternoon . I would argue it’s rather easy, considering most of Deren’s work (if you ask me, WHICH YOU DID) is mostly crap.
Congratulations, Vvinni. You have created a film that’s better than Meshes of the Afternoon and longer than Mothlight. The voiceover is quite compelling and utterances like, “my God, has she become the dog!?” pretty closely echo the sorts of things I think when I try to watch experimental films.
“Maya Deren has become Godzilla” = EPIC WIN
Your French pronunciation needs some work, though.
Vvinni,
DO NOT GIVE UP. You will be successful someday.
